NASCAR Budweiser Shootout - Practice
(Bowyer's tenure at Michael Waltrip Racing got off on the wrong foot at Daytona)

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Clint Bowyer will be forced to the rear of one of Thursday's Gatorade Duel at Daytona qualifying races after his car failed inspection Sunday.

Bowyer's Michael Waltrip Racing Toyota was found to be too low on the front left side during two inspections after qualifying for the Daytona 500. Bowyer's twenty-second fastest speed of the session will be thrown out and he will start last in his qualifying race.

"Really very surprised that we were, I don’t know if we got something stuck in the bleed hole in the shock, but the front just didn’t come back up,” said the team's Director of Competition Scott Mille. “It’s all the same stuff that we ran in practice, and it was coming back up. We’ll go over there and get to the bottom of it and see what happened.”

NASCAR said no further penalties will be levied for the infraction.

Bowyer begins his first season with MWR in 2012 after leaving Richard Childress Racing at the end of last year.

buckeye, can you read,  The article states it was a shock malfunction

Lol, come on now. Mikey, can you read? The article states no such thing. It simply quotes a guy from the team speculating that it might have been a shock malfunction. ;)

Clint Bowyer's car fails qualifying inspection

At least for Bowyer starting last in a qualifiying race will look like a penalty. Was not the issue with a Daytona 500 qualifying run? Should he haveto start last in that race if hemakes it in Thursday?

But as was stated the48 gets todo whatthey want withoutimmediate penalty. Just whenNASCAR lookedlike they were stepping up withthe kyle Buschsuspension... thatwas immediate, the next day. I guess 5 time champions witha history of rules violations earned thebreak.

Clint Bowyer's car fails qualifying inspection

buckeye, can you read,  The article states it was a shock malfunction, sometimes those things break.  NASCAR has inspected the car before and after practice and knows the package they used.

Here's the laugher,  on you,  did it ever occur to you that hurt Clint's speed?  Look at his time and then the times of Mark Martin and Martin Truex Jr. big difference and when you look at practice speeds Clint was right there.

Now NASCAR couldn't do much with this anyway, not with allowing the 48 to:

1.  Keep their car just replace the "C" post

2.  Not suspending Chad immediately

3.  Not docking the 48 at least 50 points

This really doesn't hurt Clint as his starting position would be set by the race on Thursday anyway.  So in affect if you don't get the pole or 2nd and you are locked into the top 35 your qualifying speed isn't worth anything anyway, , unless the 150's are rained out.
